What's in Your Soap?

Get to know what goes into your soap; and what doesn’t.

Bela soap base is made from 100% plant oils. These include sustainable plant oil, organic Shea butter, and vegetable glycerin. The addition of organic Shea butter is what makes our soaps unbelievably creamy and moisturizing. They contain no EDTA, HEDP, artificial preservative, or foaming agents. We don’t cut corners by adding filler oils such as soybean, canola, sunflower and safflower to save money. Bela soaps also do not contain any tallow or detergents. All our various ingredient suppliers provide us with certification verifying the quality of products we use in our formulations.

One of the many concerns when using products that include tallow in them is the purity of the animal parts from which they are made from. In 2016, the FDA issued a statement mentioning the fact that cosmetic products may not be manufactured from or processed with cattle materials due to them potentially being able to cause mad cow disease. Ingredients derived from animals have often shown signs of being more unstable and uncertain and are known to be inconsistent in terms of their quality.

Most Importantly, using tallow in your soap bars means that an animal must die in order for it to be extracted. Bela Soaps are proudly known to be cruelty-free products so you can use them with a clear conscience.

We also stay away from Parabens in our products. This ingredient is a family of related chemicals often used as a preservative in cosmetic products. However, they are also believed to disrupt hormone function by mimicking Estrogen. High levels of Estrogen being exposed to your body can increase breast cell division and growth of tumors which is why the use of parabens has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive problems.

Here at Bela Bath & Beauty, we love to produce vibrant and beautiful looking soaps. We manufacture these colors from high quality cosmetic dyes and pigments that meet all requirements of the EU Cosmetic Regulation EC/1223.2009. The range of pigments used in our soaps are all plant derived materials, natural forming iron oxides and ultramarines. As for our bright shades, organ dyes are used to capture Yellows & Greens. All the colors used in Bela soaps are prepared with a high-grade non-nano Titanium dioxide that the FDA approves in the application for food, pharmaceutical drugs and cosmetic products.

As for the fragrances of our soaps, they are all derived from nature identical fragrance ingredients and contain essential oils. All our soaps comply with the International Fragrance Association and are designed for sensitive skin application. Bela Soaps also contain no Phthalates. These are a family of industrial chemicals that are often used as solvents in cosmetic products that can often be related in damaging the liver, lungs, kidneys and reproductive system when used over a long period of time.

When you are shopping for any new bath, beauty, or food product it’s always wise to consider not only which ingredients are included, but also what is left out. It’s your body; advocate for natural and sustainable ingredients.
